I started a new blog. It can be seen here: http://squashedstrawberryalleycat.blogspot.com/
I'll probably be doing that now, mostly. I'll give it a good, oh I dunno, 3 months? But for the time being, yee!

that's a cut, that undercuts.
Due to the fact that I am far too lazy to go to the video store and far too broke to even consider purchasing DVDs, I've taken it upon myself to spend hours looking for and watching clips from my favorite films on youtube.
As Benji pointed out when we were deciding how to make my blog look prettier, it makes sense to blog about movies when you've got a huge picture of good ol' Alfred dancing about in the title. So, despite well received input from compadres, I've decided to do just that. Fascinating.
So, let's "do it to it" with one of my favorite movies ever, Metropolis. Social and political upheaval aside, I love this movie for two main reasons: 1. Brigitte Helms and 2. The "look". It's the combination of the black and white painted backdrop, the fact that they actually use hundreds of extras, the eye makeup, the robot, the lighting.
Here, see, watch this. This is what I'm talking about.
Seriously.

and world champion snow machine racer.
Hi team,
So I've decided to completely change this blog. I don't want you to think that my love for or nerdiness surrounding graphic novels has decreased at all, I just don't feel like I can sufficiently update on a regular basis with the lack of new material I am faced with.
As some of you may know, I refuse to start a food blog. The reasoning behind this is purely personal and is in no way a reflection of how I feel about friends' and acquaintances' food blogs. For example, the best food blog on the interbutts. She is so talented!
That being said, I would like the scant few of you who read this blog to help me decide what to start writing about. Requirements: must be hip, preferably something I know something about, perhaps related to some sort of art/media, you get the idea.
Thank you lovies, and hey, look at this!

The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t.
Due to the fact that PBF sucks lately, I've been forced to move onto a new weekly comic. Mind you, picturesforsadchildren still reigns supreme, but I really like what these guys are doing.
The illustration is pretty top notch (even the blatant Frank Miller references) but similar to other weekly comics, you've gotta sift through some stupid ones to find the funnies.
If you're into translating French I recommend Grand Papier. You can also click the english button, slacker. I'm in the initial browsing stages, but this has so much promise I can't even stand it.
My french is a little rusty, but from what I understand it's sort of like The Holy Consumption with the whole collective of comic nerds thing. I like it.

how come you're home so early dear?
Can we talk about how great pandora.com is for a min? I totally forgot about that shit until adam melen refreshed my memory.
I highly recommend it to those of us who spend most of our work days in cubicles/near computers. Beats any old streaming radio.
Anyways, back to the good stuff.
I've had a hard time getting out to the bookstores and picking up new material. But I will say, my most recent amazon purchase furthered my love for Jeff Brown.
Every Girl is the end of the World for Me isn't necessarily my favorite of Jeff Brown's stuff, but it's a good introduction. I'd say if you pair that with AEIOU (see this), you've got a pretty complete idea of what he's all about. I think what I like about him is the "realness." No, it's not a word, but work with me here. It's relateable, to say the least. Relationships, break ups, awkwardness, all that good stuff.
On a completely unrelated note, during one of my late night amazon searches, I stumbled upon this gem. I know very little about it, in fact I've never even heard of Sloane Crosley, but the excerpts I've read get me all giddy on the insides. For example, the first story, Pony Problem, opens with: "As most New Yorkers have done, I have given serious and generous thought to the state of my apartment should I get killed during the day." You get the idea.
(note: the displayed image is not from any of the Jeff Brown comics I mentioned, I just happened to find it on google image search and thought it looked cool)

they could've been married.
Okay maybe this is just my dorkiness taking over but oh man how excited was I when I found The Holy Consumption?!
Answer: Very Excited.
So there's these four guys, right? They're friends, they make comics, they're all from Chicago (?) and they figure, what is the best way to show off their drawings and comics?
Make a religious group! Everyone loves religious groups.
Note: the clip to the left is from a lovely book called The Three Paradoxes which I highly recommend.
But I digress.
The other little gem of the past week or so is thanks to the one and only muffin puncher, Mr. Brent B. Braun. (I don't know if his middle initial is really B.)
Either way, he tumbled this lovely comic by David Shrigley with an executioner who is a dog lover. What I like so much about Shrigley is that he's a pretty terrible artist but the writing is great. Kind of like how toothpaste for dinner looks like a 3 year old drew it.
Oh and fun fact of the day! The very same aforementioned David Shrigley also lent his artistic talent to the blur video seen here:
